Abraxane™ Mechanism of Action
This two-part 5-minute animation details the mechanism of action on Abraxane™, a novel chemotherapeutic agent (also known as a “smart drug”) for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
The MOA’s key objectives were achieved by featuring:
• Blood vessels growing around and into an enlarging tumor and its need for a continuously growing blood supply
• The albumin-activated pathway (the pathway by which this nutrient enters tumor cells, binding specific receptors)
• The formation of specialized sac-like structures (caveolae) that transport albumin across cells
• The nanoparticle structure of Abraxane™ and how it uses nanoparticles to deliver the toxic drug to the tumor while not causing toxicity to the normal tissues
