HUMIRA® Mechanism of Action in Crohn’s Disease
Abbott Laboratories
Abbott Laboratories hired Hybrid Medical Animation to a produce a 3D animation to be viewed by GI specialists that would concisely and clearly explain: (1) the complex pathophysiology of Crohn’s disease and the role of a key inflammatory molecule known as TNF-alpha, and(2) the mechanism of action of HUMIRA®, a monoclonal antibody that reduces inflammation by neutralizing TNF-alpha. After review of scientific and clinical materials supplied by the client and meetings with company scientific experts, Hybrid developed a 4-part voiceover narration script (including supporting references), and a 9-minute (4-part) animation. The final animation depicted Crohn’s disease in a near photorealistic fashion; for example, by “flying through” the intestine and seeing patches of intense inflammation on the walls. The video also clearly showed how the drug reduced inflammation by blocking the action of an important inflammatory mediator molecule called TNF-alpha.
